I think it's the culmulative effect, of increased demand, due to the recent announcements, possible insider knowledge of forward events (outside of BrainChip) and prudent covering of some shorts at a loss, to manage risk.

It can become a bit of a vicious cycle, if the demand outweighs Dave's attempts to instill fear of loss.

Just my opinion.
