The DRC suspends all lobbying contracts with American firms

In a press release published Monday, April 7, 2025, the spokesperson for the President of the Republic, Tina Salama, announced that the DRC is suspending, until further notice, all lobbying contracts, approaches, or proposals entered into or made between it and American entities, firms, or firms specializing in this field.

"In light of the mutually expressed desire to relaunch strategic partnerships between the two administrations, the Democratic Republic of the Congo's approach emphasizes the imperative of prioritizing direct exchanges with the new American administration, through official and authorized channels.

Consequently, it is immediately suspending, until further notice, all lobbying contracts, approaches, or proposals entered into or made between it and American entities, firms, or firms specializing in this field, including the contract with Earhart Turner LLC," the press release stated.

Tina Salama added that President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi welcomes the strong and lasting relationship of cooperation and friendship between the United States of America and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This decision comes a few days after the visit to Kinshasa of Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor for Africa to U.S. President Donald Trump.

On April 3, he mentioned a minerals agreement proposed by the DRC: "We have reviewed this proposal, and I am pleased to announce that the President and I have agreed on a path forward for its development.

I look forward to working with President Félix Tshisekedi and his team to build a deeper relationship that benefits both the Congolese and American people.

We aim to stimulate U.S. private sector investment in the DRC, particularly in the mining sector, to contribute to the prosperity of both our countries."

He also emphasized that American companies are ready to establish operations in the DRC to stimulate local economies.

"We need a business-friendly environment to achieve this goal.

Rest assured, American companies operate with complete transparency and will stimulate local economies.

This involves multi-billion dollar investments, job creation, knowledge transfer, and infrastructure investments," he insisted.

*To remind,

"I look forward to working with President Félix Tshisekedi and his team to stimulate US private sector investment in the DRC, especially in the mining sector, with the shared goal contributing to the prosperity of our two countries," he added.

Kobold’s proposal to develop the Manono deposit, which it describes as “a large-scale, long-term lithium mine,” comes as the DRC faces legal disputes over the project.

Resolving these issues could help Kinshasa close its case with AVZ Minerals, which has led state-owned Cominière to pay 39.1 million in penalties.

Further boosting Kobold’s position are recent U.S. tariffs targeting various countries, including Indonesia and China, major players in the lithium battery supply chain.

Washington’s recent measures could see American investment in the DRC as global demand for lithium continue to rise.

Awesome stuff, the suspension of lobbyists is a huge move! HUGE! It creates exactly the landscape for a swift deal before courts expose everything. Felix and cronies do not want this at court, they will lose and lose face, Rio, kobalt, CATH have a clear avenue to access us and DRC govt. just hope our legal backers at CATH don’t limit our ability to negotiate?

One more sleep til the 10th… will see if it means anything! As much as I appreciate all your wisdom and input I am excited about the day I’m not refreshing this page all day in the hope of news. I’m sure I’m not alone in that sentiment. News is imminent surely!

Sure it's a big call given conventional wisdom holds that a mine takes 5-7 years to develop after discovery. Yet Zingin has pretty much turned that on its head with forecast DSO from CDL early next year.

As the kid says, in the context of "China's human capital situation and the quality of their engineering procurement construction firms":

....when you have smart people working on an issue and there's a national security lens to having things get built, they get done fast...

Question is whether Kobold/Rio are capable of matching such timelines. I reckon they'll have a red hot go at it. Felix and Trump will insist they do.

"Slavery gets shit done."

This to me is a very smart strategy

Make the base affordable so everyone can get one.....resolves the most basic of business requirements being a margin of profitability (even if only small) and provides liquidity and cashflow

Then in this day and age of everyone needing/wanting to be unique and promote their individuality you have endless add-ons and customisation accessories that adds your personality and flavour to the vehicle and just happen to be items that deliver to the business better inherent margins thereby increasing profitability

I think it very smartly taps into the gen "whatever it is" thing being that whole individuality/personality/stand out/I'm unique/need vibe that seems to be the current paradigm

Do I sound too fucking philosophical and thereby somewhat weird???

Feel free to let me know

Gee I wonder what kinds of competitive opportunities are possible with a 104% tariff on chemicals coming out of China into the US market.
That is if those chemicals are not on China's no-go list.
China have slowly aimed to become the major supplier of all sort of materials, including Lithium, and now exercises that power as a weapon at will.

Another thing to consider...

While China has made significant economic strides and is now the world's second-largest economy, it is still considered a developing country by many international organizations, including the UN and the World Bank.

China should lose the classification being a developing country, which is outright bullshit, as soon as possible, like yesterday.
It outgrew the developing country status more than 20 years ago.
With that status come many advantages and countries without that status simply have to deal with China with one arm tied behind their back.

Just consider the power games China plays and the build up of its army, navy and airforce.

A developing country does not have the resources to do that.

My first phone was a Nokia 3200. It had a clear housing, but it came with a special cutter shaped to the phone that you could use to punch out a cutout from whatever image you liked and use it as your new cover. Was great.

Most cars are pretty boring (to me) so I love the idea of being able to customise it more. Not to mention if you want to increase the usable life then sometimes after a few years you might just want to change it up. I can't remember who but someone recently made a concept car that could change colour. Was crazy
