Anyway, I’m curious to hear her thoughts about MB.

I don't think Qualcomm's customers would welcome a technology / architecture change so easy. All products would have to be re-developed, adapted, implemented and retested*... we're at the same point with Akida. Guess why no product is out there and we got just research- / evaluation projects? Except the beacon from ANT61 and the Cup cake from Unigen... but these are just single and small unit solutions.

Slight correction, by the way: To the best of my knowledge, Akida is only part of ANT61’s Brain (sadly now floating around somewhere in space) and not integrated into their Beacon.

And did you by any chance mix up the Unigen Cupcake Edge AI Servers with the Akida VVDN Edge AI Boxes which are now finally being sent out to those customers who had preordered (and fully paid for) them months ago?

I believe there is still no Unigen Cupcake Edge AI Server with an Akida configuration available for purchase? And possibly Unigen’s strategy is manufacture-by-demand (similar to what I suspect has happened with regards to the VVDN Edge AI Boxes), so they might call for pre-orders to gauge sentiment before producing the first batch?


Hence I guess my July posts on that topic (see below) still pretty much hold true.

Except that on https://buyzero.de/en/products/cupcake-ai-server there is now a second option besides Hailo (currently in stock) to select an AI accelerator from the dropdown menu, namely one by Blaize (which is marked as sold out, though).

Interesting: While Unigen’s offering continues to be marketed as the Cupcake AI Server resp. Cupcake Edge AI Server on the buyzero.de website…

… it is weirdly listed as “Cupcake (no AI)” on the actual Unigen website these days:

Is that so because the Unigen Cupcake only magically turns into an AI Server once you have selected an AI accelerator configuration (see “ordering information”)?

Or will the future Akida Cupcake one day be listed as Cupcake (AI)?

Hold your horses! As far as I can tell, there is no Unigen Cup Cake Edge AI Server with an Akida configuration on the market, yet.

The dropdown menu on https://buyzero.de/en/products/cupcake-ai-server only lets you select the Hailo AI Accelerator configuration so far, which is, however, marked as “sold out”:

Still tweezer and loupe small, but manageable. I would like to see a blown up photo, with connections, plus some idea of who is making it and in what numbers.

This size will fit onto hearing-aid boards, which raises the tempting possibility of a Pico on/Pico off demonstration of ambient noise and clarity differences. If this was significant and persuasive, the BrainEar could sweep the market and make us rich. If only BRN had entrepreneurial flare.

Hearing aids are a great application for us and I am sure it is being pursued.
We can not only improve and tailor the performance somewhat for the wearer, but add a degree of AI autonomy and increased endurance.
We pretty much tick all the boxes here and can probably also decrease the price for both the manufacturer and consumer alike.
One of a list of niche products where we can find acceptance and prove ourselves to the broader market.

This video is well worth a watch IMO.

It's an interview published 2 days ago with Ziad Ashgar, Senior VP and GM of XR Qualcomm. It's primarily a discussion around the future of XR within glasses, smartwatches and the like.

At approx. 11.33 mins Ziad talks about some of the things that Qualcomm is working on to try to improve battery life which he says is the biggest challenge at this point. He says people are coming up with amazing ideas and they're moving to new technologies, creating new IP's, new camera technologies, new CPU technologies and a different architecture approach (I think he said a phased approach but I'm not 100% sure) to get to better power.

At approx. 18 mins, Ziad mentions that. AI models are going to start to get better and become smaller and he also states "we are going to be able to do it in lower power".

Obviously, I'm hopeful Qualcomm will see the merits of the technology behind Akida Pico, as it was designed for precisely these types of smaller, battery-operated, always-on devices.
